Poling Hall Addition/Remodeling Metzger Johnson was the architect. Built in 1905, Poling Hall was originally a Carnegie Library for Monmouth College. The structure had fallen into disrepair after construction of the Hewes Library. In 1995, the College began fundraising and planning for a major renovation. Construction was completed in 1998 and the building was renamed Poling Hall after the major benefactor, “Red” Poling, former chairman of Ford Motor Company and Monmouth College graduate. Poling Hall now houses the offices of business and finance, Dean of Students, registrar, Chaplain, physical plant, college support services, Wackerle Career and Leadership Center and the Morgan Room, Monmouth College’s premier meeting space. Exterior work included the addition of an elevator/stair tower designed to visually blend with the original building. Brick and limestone masonry were restored. Windows were replaced to visually replicate the original windows. Interior work included a substantial reconstruction and restoration of original woodwork to maintain the historic character of the structure. Extensive use of custom casework, trim, period light fixtures and high quality finishes enhance the buildings interior and make it a prime stop for prospective students on campus tours. Mechanical work included a constant air volume HVAC system with terminal reheat boxes for better temperature control throughout the building. Electrical work included a new service, branch wiring, telephone, data and cable TV systems. |
