Quinby House Metzger Johnson was the architect.Built in 1867, the Italianate style Quinby House was donated by the Quinby family, to serve as the Monmouth College president’s home. Occupied by the Quinby family for several generations, the structure was substantially original in detailing, making it an excellent candidate for restoration. Exterior work included restoration of an original rubble and cut local limestone foundation, restoration of the original wood windows, trim, roofing and painting. A perimeter fence was constructed based on historic photographs and drawings. A three stall “carriage house” was constructed utilizing a compatible design and detailing. Interior work included plaster and trim restoration, floor refinishing and finish upgrades. A modern kitchen was added to accommodate the president’s family and functional aspects of the semi-public first floor reception and dining rooms. Mechanical work included upgraded plumbing and multi-zone HVAC units to accommodate large crowds in the first floor reception rooms. Electrical work included an upgrade of the building’s service, branch wiring, telephone, data and cable TV systems. Original gas light fixtures were restored and electrified. |
